I am going to try to give a detailed and helpful review of this Bdellium Basic Essential 7 Piece Antibacterial Makeup Brush Set Travel Line. Before I start I always think its important in reviews to state what type of makeup you use with the brushes you're reviewing and how you clean them. You could have been doing something wrong and giving the people that read your review a bad impression of the product.
Note: The yellow handles are a much more creamier, milder yellow than in the pictures. I thought it might look too abrasive or like a kid's toy but it doesn't and I actually love it. I'm considering getting more brushes from Bdellium with these yellow handles since they, suprisingly, look very professional. Also I, personally, prefer shorter handled brushes, I just don't see the point of a long handle if you only use and hold the upper half of a brush and I feel the brush is more balanced and I have more control. Sadly, most companies that do have "travel" sized brushes, I feel, don't have great quality ones so I decided to try these on sale for $8.95 + $9.00 shipping to Vancouver, Canada.
For softness reference, I will be comparing the bristles to EcoTools synthetic brushes.
Blush Face Face Antibacterial Makeup Brush #964
-This brush is a nice size overall, but I completely disagree that this is a "blush brush". It is way too big and flimsy for cheeks, but as a powder brush it is very good. Not as soft as I want a powder brush to be. After using the brush quickly and vigorously on my face, I feel a stinging sensation so I have to use this brush softly as I have sensitive, redness prone skin. Washed with diluted Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap, keep its shape after drying. 1-2 bristles fell out when I opened the packaging and there was no unusual smell to this brush.
Foundation Application Antibacterial Makeup Brush #948
-This is a beautiful sturdy brush, well made with synthetic bristle. Very soft. I, personally, don't use this as a foundation brush, I use this for everything but foundation. My favorite thing to use this brush for is applying highlighter all over my face. This does a perfect job for liquid or powder highlighters. This is also perfect for applying liquid, cream or powder blush and then blending with fingers. Washed with the same soap, kept its shape perfectly. No bristles have fallen out and there was no unusual smell ever.
Angled Contouring Face Antibacterial Makeup Brush #942 (White)
-This is a really nice brush, the bristles, ferrule and handle is very proportionate in my opinion if that makes any sense. The whole brush is very balanced. I really like it, the bristles are white, I'm not sure if it is synthetic or natural but its quite soft, not as soft as Ecotools. This brush reminds me of the CoverFx #160 brush but angled, and that's saying a lot. The firmness is perfect, the size for cheeks (blush/contour(cream or powder)) is perfect. Washed with the same soap, outside bristles splayed a little but nothing major, no shedding, no unusual smell.
Tapered Blending Eye Antibacterial Makeup Brush #785
This brush was the worst disappointment of the set. I was so disappointed, I was hoping it would be similar to the MAC224 but no way, not even close. The shape of the brush is very nice and sturdy but the bristles are just crap! Honestly, there is no use for this brush with these poor quality bristles. The bristles are similar to the Blush brush #964 but much, much worse. The bristles are thick, very scratchy, splayed out and the dome is poorly shaped. Washed with the same soap, is splayed, 1 bristle fell out, no unusual smell.
Shadow Eye Antibacterial Makeup Brush #777
-This is another complete disappointment. Again, the shape of the brush is really balanced and sturdy. If the bristles were softer, which they absolutely are not, this could be a staple brush just like the MAC217 since the shape is similar. I wish that cosmetic brush companies would realized that if you want to make a stiffer brush, the bristles must be soft, either synthetic or natural but soft so they don't drag the skin. This brush is dense and stiff and a good shape for blending on the eye (similar to MAC217) but bristles completely ruin the potential of this brush. Although it can be used to *gently* pat all-over eye color and blend with another brush. Washed with the same soap, 3+ bristles have fallen out, no unusual smell.
Sharp Angled Contour Eye Antibacterial Makeup Brush #763
-This brush is very thin but sturdy and well made. If anything is sharp its the bristles. The brush is too thick and wide and the bristles are very stiff for my taste, okay for smudging eyeliner pencil but feels scratchy on my eye. Don't use it that often. Washed with the same soap, no shedding and no unusual smell.
Precision Lip Liner Antibacterial Makeup Brush #540
-I love this brush. Again, its thin and sturdy and the bristles tiny and stiff but soft like crazy, I think they are taklon bristles like Ecotools. I think everyone needs to have this brush but not for lips! I'll explain what I mean, I watch and follow Professional Makeup Artist Lisa Eldridge on Youtube(lisaeldridgedotcom page)and she uses a different method for foundation and concealer
