This review is for Essie's Borrowed and Blue, a very pale blue (not baby blue, but Easter/Spring/Summer gorgeous blue that makes your tan pop!)

This polish is gorgeous. It's not too gray, not too white, not too blue. The pigment is well-mixed, does not go on streaky, had no trouble with bubbles. This is an OPAQUE color by Essie. Two coats is more than enough for coverage. Add a self-leveling top coat such as Seche Vite and your nails will look great for a relatively long time. No chipping and came off very easily with acetone--I think I was able to get away with using only one cotton ball to remove! It does not stain your nails (there isn't really enough pigment for that) and it's appropriate for work, beach, interview, you name it. If you have a tan, this polish will really pop!

Highly recommended.

As Essie colors appear lighter in the bottle than when they've dried on your nails, I wasn't sure if Cocktail Bling would be gray or purple. I purchased it, tried it, and was quite pleased at first, as it appeared light purple. But this is one of those *funny* colors that seems to change a lot depending on the lighting. Sometimes it looks light purple, sometimes it looks more blue, other times it seems to be an odd pale bluish gray. I really wanted to like this but I much rather a polish with a more reliable and discernable color.

Bobbing for Baubles, on the other hand, is a very nice shade of navy blue. I was worried that it would dry too dark, but am pleased to report it didn't. I really like it but think it looks better on shorter nails. Of the 2 colors I liked enough to buy from the winter 2011 collection this was the definite winner. Unlike Mezmerised [sic] which looks better on light skin tones, Bobbing for Baubles looks just as beautiful on darker shades of brown. I'll definitely file my nails down a bit just to pull this color off.

Following a long search for a perfect iridescent lavender pink, I found this one on several blogs! It does give off various subtle hues of pink and lavender up close with good lighting even if it isn't quite as iridescent as I had hoped. However, it has unexpectantly turned into one of my top three favorite shades because it is SO elegant and versatile that it will go with almost anything you wear. It has the classiness of a French manicure and looks great with my complexion, which is a medium tan (think caramel) but looks just as nice on my blond mother-in-law who has a pinkish pale complexion.

My husband and mother-in-law both compliment me when I wear it. You know it is NICE if you get compliments from them!

PROS: subtle iridescence, very elegant, discreet, versatile, good on any skin tone, enhances your hands and makes your jewelry stand out rather than the nails.

CONS: you need to wear two coats or one thick coat of it for it to be relatively opaque, so it takes longer to dry unless you use a quick dry top coat.

Suggest you wear a base coat first (CND Nail Stickey Base is awesome)New!! Cnd Nail Stickey Base Coat 0.33 Oz, then apply nail polish while the base coat is tacky , this will extend your nail polish's life incredibly. Once you apply the nail polish, use a quick dry top coat so it does not get smudged. This one is THE best one I own: Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat .5 fl oz (15 ml) Apply it about a minute after application while your nails are stick tacky so you can start using your hands five minutes later. It is best bought with a thinner as it gets too thick when you get just below halfway your bottle. Seche Restore Restoration Thinner .5 fl oz (14 ml) This thinner can also be used to thin out your favorite nail polish colors that have gotten too thick. The only nail polish remover I use is Tate's The Natural Miracle Odorless Nail Polish Remover, it is odorless, no acetone and ALL NATURAL ingredients, ladies, so no toxic fumes to annoy/poison your hubby, pets or yourself and good for your nails!

By applying the CND Nail Stickey Base Coat, then Essie's Demure Vixen, followed by Seche vite Dry Fast Top Coat, your efforts will be rewarded by the whole thing drying faster than just the nail polish alone and best of all, your nails will look great for at least a week. I type a lot, wash my hands frequently, handwash dishes with a scrub sponge~no gloves, use disinfectant wipes a lot and houseclean and my nails last through 5 days before there is a sliver of white tips showing my natural nails. If you are less rough on your nails then you'll change your polish color because you are tired of it before it wears out.

Honest reviews on Essie Nail Polish Colors

On brown skin this color is rather *bright*. On short nails, I absolutely love this color, especially on my toes. On medium to long nails, this polish can appear anything from just okay to scary. If you have brown skin, I would suggest this color only if you wear blues well. Just keep filling your nails down till they look beautiful lol.

Unlike the other Essie colors I've tried, this one doesn't dry much darker than it appears in the bottle. Also, the consistency is a little off. This isn't a polish you can wear without a topcoat as it doesn't dry with a smooth finish.

If I didn't have to file my nails all the way down, I would have given this polish 5 stars instead of 4. I love the color, but miss my long nails.

One of my favorite things about Essie brand is that it dries pretty quickly. This particular color is thicker than the others, and starts to set FAST. I recommend making sure you have enough on the brush to coat the nail entirely on the first pass. Let it sit a couple minutes before the second coat. If you go back for more without waiting for it to dry a bit, you're going to gum up the first coat. As long as you work fast with it though, it's a really pretty purple.
