I have had this razor for nearly 18 months. It looks great and works well until you want to change the battery. It is very difficult to open the battery compartment because it's impossible to get any leverage on the round chrome cap at the bottom of the razor. If you can't get the battery out and I found it impossible then the razor effectively becomes an ordinary non-power razor and the battery will eventually leak. By the way, two people with a pair of pliers and plenty of WD40 were wrestling with this problem. Both got skin cuts for their efforts and still the cap would not shift. And I'm not the only person to have had this problem. The salesman at my local store where you can buy this this razor told me that he had had other complaints about this. It's a pity because the razor looks and feels good. But as it is YOU SHOULD NOT BUY unless you are prepared to throw it away after a couple of years and $150+ is a bit much for a throw-away...

I shave in the shower (Toilet Tree lighted mirror from Amazon) and love this razor. Ridiculously expensive? Yes. But if I'm going to scrape my face with a piece of sharp steel every morning, I want the best experience possible. I get good shave cream (Art of Shaving, Aveda, Cremo, RS) and use this razor. I have not had the reliability problems others seem to mention. My razors (I have one at home and one in my travel kit) have functioned flawlessly for a few years now. The high level of moisture in your beard from being in the shower makes for a much closer and easier shave. The light in the razor helps illuminate the different planes of your face, particularly around your nose and ears. This helps avoid that "Oh, I missed a spot" experience.

In theory it was a brilliant product idea: a classy looking chrome metal version of a Gillette Fusion Power Razor handle, with a built-in spotlight, especially appealing to anyone annoyed by the disposable nature of the relatively short lived power handles from Gillette whose useful lifespan averaged a few months.

The problem? The Art of Shaving power handle has a useful lifespan that averages just over a year, which is when the warranty expires. The problem is the three-way power switch, which ceases to function properly rather quickly. It becomes very difficult to switch on while at the same time becoming prone to switch itself on and drain the battery. I actually formed the habit of removing the battery between shaves. The built-in spotlight was a nice touch, but you could buy fifteen Gillette Fusion Proglide Power Razors for the same price, which would last you three to five times as long.

All in all a mighty high price to pay for what amounts to disposable razor.

My husband bought this for himself a few years ago while traveling and loved it.

Unfortunately our cat knocked it off the counter into the trash and before we figured it out it was in the dumpster. ( took us 3 more much less expensive razors to figure out the cats trick lol)

Anyways I got this for his birthday .

Works great, really cool looking, and came with a ton of blades! He has had it almost 5 months and it is still in great condition

At the time amazon had a seller whose price was significantly cheaper than the art of shaving website.

I highly recommend this product . Just don't leave it out on the counter next to a trash can!
