I went back and forth for months about which Sigma brush set to buy--the Premium Kit, the Essential Kit, individual brushes--but eventually splurged on the Extravaganza Collection. I was so excited to try all of the brushes, but after using the kit for a few months, I've become increasingly disappointed with the quality of these so-called "Extravagant" brushes.
The brush case: I do a lot of traveling and thought the case would be perfect to take on-the-go. It's leather, which is beautiful, but it is extremely heavy and cumbersome. It weights down my carry-on bag immensely, and I've recently stopped carrying the case at all--instead, I'll just take the five or six brushes I need and put them in a separate makeup case. On a positive note, it does organize the brushes well and keeps them clean/flat and looks nice on my vanity.
The face brushes: I've washed these brushes at least four times since I've purchased them and they STILL shed all over my face! It is so frustrating. I've had drugstore brushes that are better quality and never shed. And it's not just one or two of the face brushes--they all shed. The larger face brushes shed more than the smaller ones, but I'm continually finding little black hairs on my skin after I do my powder and blush. I wish Sigma had included a flat kabuki brush for foundation. Why did they decide to include three nearly identical Duo Fibre brushes? I hardly ever use them.
The eye brushes: I don't have any complaints about the quality of the eye brushes (although they did shed a bit when I first began using them), but I wish there were more diversity amongst them. For instance, the kit lacks a stiff angled eyebrow brush--a huge oversight in my opinion. There are also three very similar blending brushes that could have been more diversified.
The ferrules: Great quality, but when you think about it, why does it really matter if you have 18 karat gold plated ferrules? I suppose this is the "extravagance" of the kit, but it wasn't the reason I bought them; I don't really care so much about ferrules but I DO care about the brushes' quality.
Brushes I would recommend purchasing from Sigma: F40 (large angled contour); F35 (tapered highlighter); E50 (large fluff); E55 (eye shading); E30 (pencil); E70 (medium angled shading); E45 (small tapered blending)
I wish I had just bought the separate Essential and Premium Kits and saved a couple hundred dollars. I definitely don't recommend the Extravaganza Collection. The case isn't worth it, and neither are 18K plated ferrules. Save your money, buy a few key brushes for your collection, and invest in MAC or the cheaper Real Techniques drugstore brushes instead--they never shed and will last forever.I love these brushes.! There beautiful and easy to use. It's a bit pricey but I'm glad I have them. I love to use these to practice with makeup. The labeling on the brushes makes it easy to use and to know what is for what. The packaging is also very lovely is easy to take around to travel with. The 18k gold is the perfect touch on these brushes.
