Its bristles are natural and made from "pony" hair, which means it is made from horse hair. This is important to mention as there are some who prefer natural hair to taklon and vice versa. Bristles are stiff enough to apply color, but have enough "give" to them so application is comfortable and goes smoothly. It is a great brush for "packing" shadow color onto the lid as well. If one looks at the shape of the brush head, one will notice that it is a bit wider at the base and thins to the top, which helps to apply shadow more precisely. To wash this brush, I use baby shampoo and let it dry over night so that my brush is ready for me in the morning.
The Stila #5 is an expensive brush, on par to Mac pricing, but it is very well made and does a good job grabbing and applying shadow to my lid. It is so much better to use a high quality brush like this to apply shadow, as you get a better application than with using those cheap sponge tip applicators that typically come with eyeshadow.
Unfortunately, this brush is a bit too large for my lid, hence the 4-star rating. However, it has become the brush I turn to to apply highlight the color under my brows, as it is the perfect size for that. If one has larger lids, its size might be ideal, however, if you are not sure, there is still hope as it might be a great brush for your highlight shade, so it is worth trying! I do not forsee having to purchase this brush again for quite a while, which can be attributed to the quality of this brush.

This is a high-quality brush that is sturdy and is made with good hair that doesn't shed all over my face when I'm applying makeup. However, for whatever reason, Stila decided to make this brush fit for a giant. It is HUGE! If Hagrid from the "Harry Potter" series wanted to apply some eyeshadow, this brush would be perfect for him, but for the average-sized girl, it is WAY too big. It's a shame because the brush is super nice, but I will rarely use it because of its triple-XL size.
