Very pleased with these brushes. Have used Mac, Inglot, Manicare, Bella Pierre, Avon and Napoleon Perdis brushes previously. Have more or less left them all in the brush bag and am using this set exclusively.

These brushes are soft on the skin but the hair itself is firm enough that you can do quite precise work without losing the shape and hold of the brush hair. Because the hairs are synthetic, the brushes are versatile and can be used on all sorts of products. They work well for the task listed on the side but work equally well in other ways. I used the eye contour brush to apply eye corrector (Bobbi Brown) and concealer with a great result. The buffing and foundation brushes do a great job and the countour brush is also great for blush application.

Nice light handles and the brushes have gone through two cleaning cycles (Sapoderm soap + isopropyl alcohol disinfectant) without any loss of quality.

Both Ecotools and Real Techniques come from the same company Paris Presents Incorporated, and both use soft, synthetic hair (a good thing no cruelty involved).

To be completely honest, it seems that the differences are in the design, colors and price. Ecotools has a very simple/basic design, while Real Techniques looks much fancier (especially its brushes' handles). I would buy Real Techniques as a present it looks good.

Apart from that, I actually find Ecotools to be of about the same quality and softness or even better.

Well, the other difference is the price (in most cases, you can find Ecotools brushes for about half price of the Real Techniques ones).

UPDATE:

I wash my brushes regularly the Ecotools ones have remained the same, however the Real Techniques' handles have deteorated. The black parts of the handles became somehow wrinkly (the golden part stayed intact). Expected them to be more durable due as they are more expensive than Ecotools.

I have used these brushes a lot since I've received them and they have not shed one hair yet. The brush heads don't have a strange odor unlike my other natural hair Sigma brushes. I think this has something to do with Real Techniques using synthetic hair instead.

Overall, I would absolutely recommend these brushes. They're affordable and great quality! Especially the stippling and buffing brush. I plan to expand my collection. Also, if you get any of the traveling sets, you can use the holder to dry your brushes. Be sure to have your brush hairs pointing downward. Genius design!

**UPDATE** It has been one year since I purchased this set. Still in same form as day 1 condition despite my inclination to deep clean each brush after each use. Well worth the investment. I saw that another reviewer preferred EcoTools over Real Techniques. I would have to differ in opinion. I have purchased an EcoTools travel set & bronzing brush about a year ago as well -the durability is not the same. The metal cuff binding the hair to the bamboo shafts came off on multiple brushes; I have not purchased any EcoTool product since.

Honest reviews on real Techniques Core Collection Set

Im a fan of Samantha's tutorials on youtube, so as soon as I was able to buy this brushes I did, most of all because Ive seen that a lot of other makeup artists use them as well. They are affordable and soft, easy to clean, some of them have a lineal base so they stand up on vanities and desks. This particular set has 4 brushes, all with the same color (which corresponds to face) and their bristles are synthetic so they can work powders, creams, liquids and minerals:

1. The pixel detailer brush: this is meant to be as concealer brush. however, its really tiny, so I use it for lips and also for gel eyeliners, when i dont want a perfect line.

2. The Pointed foundation brush: This one has a triangular shape, and its flat: This one I use for concealer around my nose for example. Never for foundation.

3. The contour brush: I love this one, specially for the size. Its meant to be for contouring, and it fits perfectly in the hollow of the cheeks. However, my face is kinda small, so must of all the blush brushes are big for the surface I want to deal with, so this has doubled as blush brush, with incredible results.

4. The Buffing Brush: i didnt expected to love this one but its my favorite so far. My foundation has never looked this great, and I havent changed it. Its great for powders too, but as I said, I use it as my prime foundation brush.

I would definitely buy this again, though I just would want the buffing and the contour brush, its worth every penny.

I have owned and used many different brands of brushes from top brands like MAC to cheap brands in CVS that look like a deal. I did my homework on these brushes & I was expecting something great & I definitely was surprised because my expectations were actually surpassed. They're even better than I though they would be. These brushes put my foundation on absolutely flawlessly. I get compliments on my make-up since I have been using these brushes!! They're super soft & I have been using them everyday & also washing them everyday & not once single hair has fallen out of them, so the quality is really up there with the professional style brushes. I want to buy another set & keep it in its packaging so that when these do eventually need to be replaced, I'll have my back-ups ready to go. I want the entire "Real Techniques" Brush collection!
